OpenHuman Mascot Guide — Desktop Pet, Voice, and Meeting Agent

OpenHuman's desktop mascot is its most eye-catching feature. It's not just a cute icon — it talks, shows expressions, joins meetings, and keeps thinking in the background while you're away.

What is the mascot?

The mascot is OpenHuman's visual AI character. It floats on your desktop like a desktop pet. It thinks in the background, proactively reminds you of things, and speaks to you with lip-synced voice. When it talks, it actually looks like it's speaking.

Show / Hide

  • Toggle visibility: Click the menu bar icon
  • Disable completely: Settings → Mascot → uncheck "Show desktop mascot"
  • Hotkey: Ctrl+Shift+M (Win) or Cmd+Shift+M (Mac)

Basic interaction

  • Click: Opens the conversation window
  • Drag: Reposition the mascot anywhere on screen
  • Right-click: Quick menu (mute, hide, settings)
  • Double-click: Triggers a greeting animation

Voice & speech

The mascot uses ElevenLabs TTS for natural voice output with real-time lip sync. Press the push-to-talk hotkey and speak — the mascot listens, responds, and the viseme map makes the avatar's mouth movements match the spoken words naturally.

Google Meet agent

The mascot's most powerful feature: it can join Google Meet calls as a real participant. See the Voice & Meet Agent guide for full details.

Tips

  • Speak to it like a real assistant — the mascot responds with natural voice
  • Use it during meetings for real-time transcription
  • When idle, the mascot may proactively offer to check notifications or summarize updates
  • Adjust speaking speed and voice in Settings → Voice
  • Mute the mascot temporarily when you need quiet focus time
